@ GameBoy, just saw your post now. Its pretty simple. Its a double exposure where you keep the camera still(or on a tripod), take the pic, dont move the camera, tell the subject to move out the frame and then take another picture over the one you just took. You need to use an old school film camera which you have to manually roll to the next frame. You can also create this effect digitally by overlaying the two images as if you have take a double exposure. hope i explained properly!
With a digital camera you'll need a long-exposure and flash. You fire off the flash with the subject in shot; then the subject moves out and the camera captures "the rest".
caveat: the 'scene' will have to badly lit for this to work proper, e.g:

… oh, once the subject is out and your long exposure is running: you can zoom in and out (won't be able to focus on any thing) but the end results could be cool:
