the gun of a slave (goree island, senegal)

the gun of a slave (goree island, senegal)

this picture was taken on goree island, one of the main points of disembarkation for enslaved Afrikans on their forced migration to the Amerikas.  the gun, outfitted with cowry shells, was used by Afrikans to enslave fellow Afrikans, the english translation of the caption beside the gun reads: "the gun of a traitor."

my bad ya'll, i got this mixed up with another photo. this gun was not used by Afrikans to enslave other Afrikans, rather it was used by enslaved Afrikans to fight against the Europeans. the translation is not "the gun of a traitor," instead it reads "the gun of a slave."

not to intrude, or anything --- but you could 'tag' the graph with the 'location', no?
