This was taken when the F1 cars were driving around Sandton. This kid was in his batman outfit and didn't seem to be with anyone in particular. everyone was totally taken with the cars but he didn't seem to care - just staring into space.

its called keylighting and the point is to actually isolate the subject by burning out detail in other areas in the frame.
take a look at the pic again. its too awesome!!!The light on the boy is actually perfect midtones ad not bliinding white or gray like the rest of the frame, so your eye is immediately drawn to him.
