HDR is Masai Mara

HDR is Masai Mara

This is a pretty nondescript pic that I processed through Photomatix Pro, to see what it did as an HDR application.

I used just the single image ... not the 3+ images that you usually combine to get interesting HDR type effects (for those of you who don't know anything about HDR, check out: http://www.stuckincustoms.com/hdr-tutorial/) ... but the finished result astonished me.

The image just seems to be 3D ... the tree has a strange 3D feel to it ... and the light on the zebras and wildebeest makes them seem to stand out. The clouds, of course, are way overblown ...

But I kinda like this pic. Kinda.

true -- that 3d feel is weird.

i have question about hdr --- if its suppose to mimic what the eye can see --- why does it create what it does not?

but then again, why would you want want to see the world for what it is.

Smile. There is HDR and there is HDR.

What I have done is use an HDR tool. That doesn't mean that I have done it propoerly at all.

Trey Ratcliff maintains ~ "The best tip [I can give photographers] is perhaps the one that I hit hard in my tutorial: Although existing HDR algorithms are good and getting better, they must be re-mixed with an original RAW to ensure that proper balance is returned to the scene."

I'm not *really* doing HDR yet, as I don't use Photoshop, and so don't re-mix Photomax output, with an original RAW image to get the 'proper balance' ...

But HDR done right .... eish.

It's the world as it is ... even if we can't see it.

;-) @ "there is HDR and there is HDR" --- reminds of that "there is a Braai, and there is a Braai".

    *point, understood, though.
