We went to Northcliff Tower last night to take a shot of the sunset.

But, some bastards built some houses at the top, and the sun set right behind these.

Oh, and some clouds too.

So the sunset shoot that wasn't, became the Northcliff Tower Panorama by night shot.

This is it. 4 shots, ISO100 f/2.8 14mm ... tripod ... taken as we were leaving.

I had nothing to speak of until then. Saw this, Thought, let's give it a go.

    lol @ bastards

    i dig — has a open scene to an apocalyptic film.

    Very cool. The tower stands out life a pillar of fire.

    If I may be allowed one tiny comment, my eye feels a bit uneasy with the horizon as high in the shot as it is. Maybe I've just been doing too much golden ratio studies the last while... but that would be a sweet sky:ground ratio.

    @diaan: Yea .... I hear you.

    I actually need to bring some more exposure out of the original RAW files, as there some foreground, with a path leading from the Tower, to the foreground, bottom left ... leads the eye nicely into the picture, towards the Tower. Its lost in this image ... too dark. But on my screen & working environment I could see it ... seems output is darker than anticipated. I believe the pros have this problem all the time when they print!

    I love the way the tower stands out against the dark sky, very ominous. Can you get close to the tower btw? Might make for some more interesting shots ;-)

    @Tom: Yea, you can get close. Here's a set of pics I took last year. Daylight. Different feel: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thesmiths/sets/72157625616032822/with/5268455304/

    Very cool! I reckon that low angle looking up at the tower, at night, would be pretty cool :-)
