The Uprising of Hangberg. Wake Up!

The Uprising of Hangberg. Wake Up!

Last night i went to a screening of the documentary 'The battle for Hangberg". It was a deeply moving account of the criminal acts of violence by the metro police force as they tried to evict people in the area who are living in what the city calls 'illegal dwellings.' The documentary clearly shows how Helen Zille has been lying to us about what truly happened there, and how the mainstream media (THE VOICE, THE CAPE TIMES)  have helped to further her lies. The message this film is trying to get across speaks loudly of the injustices committed against the poor in South Africa everyday. It shows how our government is using POWER to subject and silence the poor. I am definately going to get more involved with the project. The filmakers (Aryan Kaganof and Dylan Valley) are doing amazing work. They have given their time and resources for mahala over the past month, to bring this issue to our attention, and I am deeply grateful for them for doing this. Now that I know what's going on, I can't just pretend like its not.

I'm with you, though I find myself far.
These are photographs that contribute to sensitize civil society, governments and religious, about injustices in the society in which we are.
Unfortunately there is a lot of us speechless.
    Have beautiful day
