Did you use a Pentax? I have a Pentax SP1000 from the about the same time, it's a great camera, I've learned a lot from it and it has a special meaning to me because it belonged to my father...

oh. well. that's mos def a scratch. it actually looks like a repetion of a stray-pixel line.
No UP. when i arrived in Kampala, my camera got stolen, so i purchased a non-descript mik en druk at the local shop. it turned out quite interesting because when developed, all the negs had this vignette around them
