What are tags and what does it mean to 'tag' something. There is a wiki definition of what tags are:
A tag is a (relevant) keyword or term associated with or assigned to a piece of information (e.g. a picture, article, or video clip), thus describing the item and enabling keyword-based classification of information.
It is simple as that. The question then becomes 'to tag or not to tag'? Well, if you have very few photographs, the benefits of it don't matter, but as soon your collection grows, the benefits become apparent.
As you might have noticed, I don't have a 'search' thingy-magic, that's because I don't like the way normal searching works, it's not intuitive. If you wanted to search for photographs taken (and/or about) Johannesburg, you would simple go here: http://75.co.za/photogrpahy/tag/johannesburg
I find that much easier to understand, in the human sense of understanding. So by tagging your photography accordingly, allows you and everybody else to sort of find 'em easier, moreso as time moves along you start seeing relationships between things that share the same tag but might have different subject matter (meta).
But, alas, you are at liberty to tag or not to tag, it's up to you.
