Spirit of the time -- 2007/08

an article.

Yay --- the 75th Anniversary was, well, absolutely beautiful --- there is something inherently good about 75 that even trying to pen to words is to limit it to a definition --- Mad love, mad respect to everybody and I mean ai'body!

But, now, I will break down the annual report, the Zeitgeist: Spirit of the time of 75 since last year April 2007.  Here we go, it's going to be a very long post, so bare with me.

Internally.

  1. 1987 Photographs
  2. 11239 Comments
  3. 138 People
    1. 53 'graphers --- 4 not active, yet.
    2. and a couple more we hoping they will return.

Hmm,, that's it on the inside, now for the outside.

Externally

The numbers, the stats:

  1. 10,669 unique visitors
  2. 57,131 visits
  3. 499,659 page impressions/views (+862,074)
  4. 3,349,240 Hits, if these still matter (+874,152)
  5. 100.71 GB of Bandwidth transferred

Where do we come from?  Well, it's easier to tell you where we didn't come from, almost the entire planet, except those countries where the 'regime/government' is not so, popular.  I think a picture will give you a better idea of what is.

2008_75 Map

Make sense?

Well, lets see from where in South Africa (considering we are all mostly connecting from South Africa)

Rosebank, Johannesburg, Auckland Park, Bramley, Cape Town, Pretoria, Sandton, Modderfontein, Randburg, Durban, Claremont, Germiston, Midrand, Bellville, Brakpan, Westdene, Laudium, Nelspruit, Port Elizabeth, Pietermaritzburg, Monument, Centurion, Rooderpoort, Kempton Park, Stellenbosch, Pinetown, East London, Brits, Mmabatho, Witbank, Vereeneging, Pietersburg, Parow, Potchefstroom, Alberton, Florida, Wadeville, Westville, Bloemfontein, Olifantsfontein, Northcliff, Onderstepoot, George, Benoni (straight outta), Saldanha, Grahamstown, Klerksdorp, Louis Trichardt, Mondeor, Medunsa, Mosselbaai, Wellington, Upington, Umlazi, Rustenburg, Middleburg, Newcastle, Braamfontein, Richards Bay, Honeydew, Empangeni, Alice, Boksburg, Caledon, Vanderbijlpark, Malmesbury, Tzaneen, Strand, Greytown, Witrivier and Umtata.

Phew, ons est galore, né?

  1. So when do we most 'damage', well, last year November was the busiest month and this year it's March (but I suspect this will change as the year goes on).
  2. Thursdays and Tuesdays are the busiest days of the week, especially during between 9am and 2pm.  BUT, most of us (67%) spend less than 30 seconds on the site --- then 10% of use spend at least an 1 hour a day.

What do we use to get on 75:

  1. 65% use windows
  2. 16% on Mac
  3. 19% (Linux, symbian)

What browsers:

  1. Firefox (43%) is still kicking Internet Explorer (36%)
  2. Safari, Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Opera and Camino

An interesting but not so important note is that: 90-95% of us come into 75 directly, without being refered from another site.

To another day, week, month, year, dare I say decade? --- Mad love, respect to everybody and for the 'Graphers for blessing us with ill, dop(dot)e/r, fantastic, snap(')d and beautiful photography.

Oh, I apologise for not staying forever last night, the flu was starting to act up --- I had to nurse it.

More sunsets, (looking at Daniel, good to meet you fella, now that the ice is broken, we can get down and do more), ;-) --- Getting a phone call from Rudzani and Makhaya, was without a doubt, beautiful.

1ove, most definately.

    EISH-EISH!
Now I'm really sad I didn't make it, I was sorry not to, now I'm just downright sad I didn't.
75 is a beautiful thang Lebogang. Thank you so bloody much for creating such a beautiful thing.
You know, been rather depressed with all the shit that's been going on in the world - big shit (Zim) and racist shit (David Bullard) and stupid shit (taxi drivers)...
Its nice to have some kind of escape ya know.
So thanks to 75, and yah...hope we can infect the world with all this love and positive energy.

liliji25, err, no --- I prefer the full-monty of my name --- my mother said I should refuse to have my name shortened, apparently it will shorten my life.

But, yeah --- next year we gon' get Mark Shuttleworth to charter some flights to get everybody to be there, ;-)

Or, maybe next year --- we can only celebrate in different cities at the same time --- and if broadband is solid, we can stream all the sessions online,,,

    *penning' the business plan, ;-)
