aha!
5 years? wow, incredible!
we need to celebrate,
Hello,
Yet another year is closer to an end — I am not particularly sure how to feel about this year, but I know what I have in mind for next year and I also know I am far from the norm of how things are supposed to run.
But, before I get into my pseudo-philosophical self, here is the truth, one time a Buddha said:
… as you reflect on your life, do remember to reflect on the good that has happened."
Ok. Not in those words exactly.
So, 2011 what was:
we had a JOZI | An Exhibition — that was beautiful, it reaffirmed one thing: we need more; photography in real space has a bigger and more important role than it does on pixilated screens.
On top of that, I do think we had more 'graphers this year than any other year before — that comes with a caveat, other graphers dissappear, but, life does get in the way of the life we want to live, right?
From my end there has been a lot of failures, can't really say why, but I've had a turbulent year, worst year of all the years this has been running — and that is what I am driven for, for next year.
Before this turns into a Dr. Phil episode, here is what I would like us to do, at the very least and at the beginning of next year:
get together — not to drink only, but to share ideas of what you think we can do as a collective: I do believe, like a cliché, we are stronger as a collective. I have ideas of what I would like to do next year and years beyond, but I think, as a collective there is more ideas to explore; more possibilities can be made possible: to experiment more with light, not just draw.
When the new year dawns on us, I will begin the dialogue: in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and in any virtual space where I can't get to.
With that thought, cast in stone, it is the festive season, do celebrate it, until we speak again in the year of the dragon — The 5th year — mo' fire!
ps:
Mad love to all the 'graphers, without which, this wouldn't be possible; without which, our story wouldn't be told; without which, this isn't photography.
Respect.
