It still baffles me why people get satellite TV while they live in a shack... if you do the math they can probably build a proper house in a year,

    DSTV Compact Subscription = R270 p/m
    Bricks (Baak Stena) = +/- R1.50 each

I.E. +/- 180 bricks a month, multiply by 12 = 2160 bricks, I'm no construction expert but 2160 Baak Stens could probably make something decent...

@kunta its one thing having the finances to buy bricks but its another if you cant afford the land on which you can build with those bricks.

Alas, the modern human condition is a strange one — it's like me moving to cape town, living la vida loca, when I know full well that back at home, the money could be used for something much greater than a few fleeting moments with foreign girls.

    But, hey.

@Seilatsatsi I get what mean... But its a start... *Thinking of the Aesop Rock song One Brick*

@LN I like how you put it, its like driving an M6 and fighting for a blankie with your siblings when you get home...

It's almost a case of moving with the times in spite of your condition.

We all fall into the same practice in some form or other.

@Ante I feel you, guess to some luxury comes 1st...

Its always easier to say what the people who live in those shacks should do, its another thing walking in their shoes for a couple of days. If given the chance we would probably do the same thing too ...

@GGM 1 questions - An app that looks good but doesn't do what its suppose to OR an app that looks like crap but does what its intended to do? (messed up analogy but its all I could think of)

  13. George Gladwin Matsheke

its not a good analogy - bona black people usually have stuff to sort out back at home , while they are trying to sort themselves out at the same time - with minimum resources. Thats why why white people always ask themselves instead of buying an Audi or Merc why not buy a reasonable house instead. We have our own reasons why we do what we do ... maybe that person in a shack is building a proper house in Seshego and they are not planning on being JHB forever - you dont know their plans and reasons - so don't judge. All we have is the cover, we have no idea what they are about.

  14. Kunta Kinte

My statements were not aimed at judging, they were more questions than anything else. And based on that you are correct, I don't know their story, there could be a bigger picture to it, but on the other hand, wouldn't saving that R270.00 be a catalyst in finishing the house ya ko Seshego?

Out of interest sake... Why did you choose limpopo as an example?

  15. Lebo Shmoove

@Kunta think about it this way, everyone regardless of their current condition still wants their place feeling warm and homie. Ones home is or should be ones escapism and tranquility. Like GG said, we do not know what else these people are brewing on the side but one thing i do know is that we have all said this to ourself "Let me get this one for the time being until..."

  16. George Gladwin Matsheke

@Kunta - Im Tsonga my people are from limpopo. How do you know that they are paying R270.00? They could be on the R99 package ...
@Lebo - that is true - we all have said "Let me get this one for the time being until..."
