    Bokeh!

  3. Kunta Kinte

lovely Bokeh, reminds me of something I saw on tumblr, can't remember where exactly, I think it might be on Jeff's tumblr, dont remember

Is this taken with the bottom of the range f1.8 ? I was considering buying it(only have the 18 55mm kit lens). If it is, its definitely worth my penny!

  5. Lebo Shmoove

    Lol Jeff u crazy

@Novocaine yes this is taken by the nifty fifty/fantastic plastic(F1.8) as it's know. But i don't think this graph should be the reason for you to go buy it. A photo like this one can be taken with numerous lenses, just mess around till you get the right focus point, DOF and u can pull off this kind of graph with a lot of equipment at your disposal so go crazy this weekend with that kit lens even put it on manual focus and see what you can capture.
    Investing in lenses is a good thing. Good luck :-}

True true, but with a maximum aperture of 3.5 at 18mm and 5.6 at 55mm there are limits :) especially bokeh wise.

Do you shoot on auto ISO? The reason I ask is that at 1/4000 at 800 ISO you might have been able to use a lower ISO and get parts a little sharper?

I do really dig this photo.

Nah my camera does not support auto ISO. I'm not sure if you have been to neighborhood's alley on a cloudy day, it gets a little dark. He would have lost alot of detail with lower ISO hence Khumbelo increased it on this here graph. or maybe a using a flash and lower ISO, either way the boy captured it lol

i'll try upload a graph for you sometime next week to show you what kind of bokeh the kit lens can produce when shooting wide open to achive a more shallow depth of field. But one thing to take in consideration if you want a really low shallow DOF using ur kit lens, is to make sure your subject is further away from the background.

    Beautiful

  9. novocaine

Yeah its a beauty, no doubt.

I have an old minolta and while the 550D's picture quality is superior... my minolta has a nice F2 lens that does produce muuuch better bokeh. Great for portraits etc. Just heard a friend has one, gonna try it out.

Are you guys all up in jhb?

  10. Khumbelo

    i wanna reShoot this.

  11. Thato Sehlabela
