Hello,

My trusted stead of a camera (canon 400d) is dead. Its been with me for 4 years (first and last photographs it took).  I guess one needs to evolve.

There in lies my question:

what camera would you reccomend I get? (I'll say I am no longer a fan of Canon).

1ove, evolves.

    For me a Pentax K7.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your trusty steed. Being a Nikon shooter I'd obviously gravitate toward them - also for the superior direct support in SA vs that of Canon's.

I have my eyes on the D90, which offers low-light and various other performance characteristics of the far more expensive D300 and D700 models.

    Good luck.

    Okay.

I need a digital SLR that has HD Video, so far here is what I found.

    1. Canon 550D (which is pretty kewl, except I am trying to walk from Canon): http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos550d
    2. Nikon D300s (cost way too much): http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond300s/
    3. Leica (it's kewl and affordable but might not be versatile): http://www.dpreview.com/news/1004/10042002leicavlux20.asp

    What yáll think?

*ps: dpreview is the best site for digital camera review.

Hmm,, it turns the Nikon D5000 also does video: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/NikonD5000/page2.asp

    But the specs aren't impressive.

It looks like I will be returning to Canon, well that's assuming I can raise the capital required to purchase the dam thing.

I am using Nikon D5000, so thats what i'd recommend...state of the art.

    I love this...

I won't recommend anything..I believe cameras should NOT have any video built in. That and I'm an Olympus man :)

  7. Diaan

Not to start an argument here... but video on SLR is awesome. That is all.

Also, have you tried to take the 400D in to a repair shop to see if they can fix it? You never know.

  8. yizzi25

it would take more cash to fix than buy a new one.

  9. lebogang nkoane

@Diaan repairing it would mean I won't get video. Lets say this 'loss of a camera' is a shove in the right direction: I have a few 'moving pictures' ideas I need to get done (or at the least realise they were bad ideas).

okay — considering I'll be broke for quite sometime now; what film camera would yáll suggest?

A friend of mine has a Canon EOS 3 he's looking to sell. Give me a shout (in case I forget to check back here) if you want me to get a price from him.

Wow that looks like heavy machinery. I need something light; I am also thinking of medium format (I have a lomo, but that lack of the ability to focus is a bit too much guess work)

:( sowy 'bout your camera bro.

    like this shot.

it's' all good. evolution is mandatory.
