Lwazi Hlophe 1979-

 

 Hlophe was born 20th October 1979 on the East Rand, east of Johannesburg South Africa. He works predominately with the medium of charcoal and photography.

 

In 2003 Lwazi was awarded a learner ship to study documentary and advance digital photography, at the market photography workshop. When he completed his advance digital photography programme, Lwazi became a freelance photographer. He was selected to be part of the group exhibition in 2005 called ‘’joburg circa now’’’ at the Johannesburg art gallery, his work is published in the book of the same title.

Lwazi has photographed South Africa’s award winning musicians and actors, Black Coffee, Lira, and Simphiwe Dana, to mention a few.2006-2008 he joined Y magazine as Chief photographer.

 

In 2009 Hlophe became an independent professional photographer, he received 2009 arize award for outstanding growth in business and personal development. Lwazi has been commissioned ‘’ 8 goal for Africa’’, Michael Angelo hotel ‘’black and white prints of classical architecture of the city of Johannesburg’’ The Raphael hotel ‘’ water reflection photographic prints’’. He has created work for some of South Africa well known brands and titles True Love, Rand Merchant Bank, National Road Agency, Total South Africa, Nedbank and Mail and Guardian.

In 2011 he became part of the Johannesburg art bank artist exhition, where he exhibited his first body of work ‘’ Ibhola lethu’’ our foot ball it reflects the conditions in which young black footballers play the ‘’ the game of love’’

Since 2010 Hlophe has been producing charcoal art works ‘’ Man in a hat’’, ‘’Tribute to eve’’ and ‘’ meditating man’’

Hlophe’s photography aim is to capture moments, which connect us to the world and tell a story. His charcoal works explore issues closest to him, ‘’Self ‘’ and ‘’ Africa’’. Simultaneously he is working on his first solo photographic exhibition ‘’ following a beat’’ a collection of photographs and portraits of the South African urban music culture and ‘’ Africa’’ is his first charcoal project.

 

Lwazi Hlophe lives and works in Johannesburg where he shares his life with his Wife and their two children.
