ive always been fascinated by the fact that Sunday in Xhosa also translates to "church".  for obvious reasons i know, but that its just another sign of colonialism and missionaries still embedded in our lives.  how many of us have "Christian names"? i used a different name all throughout school (except for the years at school in soweto), than i did at home...and now i think i need therapy for that subtle but oh so damaging split personality. and man, some of those "Christian names" were old school! ( a nun gave me mine when i was born).  most of the people ive come across who share my "Christian name" are very very old irish and german women. which is also cool...i guess history will link us in all sorts of ways.  and here we are.

oh on your discourse --- i think our greatest (Africans that is) human trait is our ability to assimilate any given culture --- sure we lose some, but I believe human evolution will be survived by being able to do so.

"It's impossible to be an individual" - you can quote me on that one.

you guys are quick! i just put this up. oh, and how many of us have a female relative (whether youre black, white, coloured, indian etc) with the name "elizabeth"? ive always wondered if her (queen elizabeth II) visit to SA in '47 had any impact on this. or perhaps her coronation. yes true lebogang, but sometimes i fear we've lost quite a bit and gained some aspects of today's society (mostly by force) that we will never make peace with. (in my opinion-nationalism). imagine if the whole of europe was one country (not like the current eu), what would it be like for them? anyway...

the trade off is usally harsh, especially when we haven't yet developed a true and settled sense of self. the thing is; success is often defined as being synonymous to whiteness. And so, as we progrees (evolve) we cease to do so on our own terms.

    nice pic, i like
