This has to be one of the most mind numbing jobs in the world!
There are theories dedicated to Reflexivity in Action; whose basic premise is that during any action, the mind is in active or passive reflection (regardless whether that reflection is on the task at hand or another arbitary thought). This we see even when we are ourselves engaged in menial tasks such as washing the dishes: your mind soon moves from the act of washing dishes. What do these men think about in these endless shifts? I wonder.
They probably think "God save the queen because we certainly couldn't".

its all for show. and its sad how tourists treat these guys. people would form lines to stand next to him for photographic opportunities as if we wasnt alive. i was saddened by the physical torture of having to stand still on your feet for so long. maybe he needs the money. sometimes folks will sell their souls, even if they dont really believe in or buy into a culture, just because they have to eat.
