not for vegitarians/badimo

not for vegitarians/badimo

if you are vegitarian because killing animals is cruel, imagine being boiled or grilled alive as a vegitable, just kiddin. we had a slaughtering a while ago and i was just looking back and thinking the poor animal was consumed in one day. that got me thinking about the concept of being consumed, if you look at it, the grass eat the soil, the cows eat the grass, we eat the cow and a few years later the soil eat us. so when you have a slaughtering you are indeed taking a meal with your uncestors or rather eating your uncestors. think about that

    strange --- if you remove the faces (or replace 'em with familiar ones) --- all these shots look familiar, ko gae.

  2. molobedu

    they do, i think each and everyone has been through this one way or the other its the one thing you cannot avoid in life.

  3. lebogang nkoane

    True (in my context): this would be Ko Nine; Marapyane.

    aside: Top-left (ala Jam/Alley style) shot: the goat's hoof is next to a leather shoe.

    ;-)

    *hmmm, these shots bring about an idea of a theme: a narrative: 4/shots, something, something, I'll think about it.

  4. twiggle stix

    True.. this is something that we all go thru... this is a dope story board..

  5. lebogang nkoane

    story/board

    yep --- that its --- thats what the next theme will be called.

    4/shot story/board: a narrative; start to end;

    who is down?

    *getting excited.

  6. twiggle stix

    Im in!

  7. Khumbelo

    dope!

    theme would be dope.

  8. Kunta Kinte

  10. loymad

    This is amazing storytelling... takes me back home...

    Love the blood in the "ndishi".

  11. Uno

    Congrats molobedu, you started a theme, we all needed it, don't you guys think, it feels like things have been slowing down on 75...
    I'm down.
    I like this story although I can't say that it feels familiar - I needed another cultural context in my past that could build up memories from other senses (sound, smell) to fill in the gaps on the narrative and fully understand what each image signifies entirely.
    love

  12. lebogang nkoane

    @UP --- yeah, 75 been slowing down --- but nothing stays up (no pun intended) forever.

    I quite like the ups/downs it goes through, it makes it more organic, or rather, alive --- to me, it means, 75 is owned by people, and as people we go through the ups and downs; moments of inspiration and moments without; moments of reflection, introspection; solitude and being part of a collection; colour, black & white; hate and love; routine; mandane; exceptional; unique and common;

    i think nativesoul also expressed the same sentiment --- but to have 75 be the all inspiring photography is to demand that we as the 'graphers to be inspired all the time; and that is not possible, all the time;

    ... and guess what: it took a slaughtering of a goat to inspire a new idea ;-)

    your thoughts?

  13. Uno

    @LN

    Gee man, well put. You're quite right, but on the other hand I've noticed that we have a lot of new people joining 75, that should bring a new energy to the thing. And without disagreeing with the fact that we all lack inspiration ( I prefer the word Motivation) sometimes, 75 is also made from many different people, what are the odds that we all lack motivation at the same time?
    There's also a lot of ideas for themes that could be explored and that could mobilize more graphers. Here's one "The first One" - the photograph/image that first made you pursue better ones, that first gave you that feeling of acomplishment, of engagement with the process of photography...
    This goat slaughtering is really creating a kind of discussion right here, anyone care to join?

  14. lebogang nkoane

    hahahah --- i like that idea --- in fact as i read it: a remembered the photograph --- trick is now I gotta find that 'graph;

    i love it;

    "in the beginning"

    i love it;

  15. Uno

    Better still: "My first time", ha, ha, ha!

  16. lebogang nkoane

    "when I was little, .... i shot this."

    *giggle

  17. Bareng Rakuba

    Cool stuff Molobedu, I really missed your beautiful cuts.

  18. Kunta Kinte

  19. twiggle stix

    Let the Slaughter begin...

    *Grabs a leg..

  20. Nokulunga Msomi

    lol @ twiggle.
    doPe shot this is, interesting story, i can relate to it.

  21. GLUcose D

    Beautiful story indeed!!!

  22. molobedu

    well now i am getting all fuzzy, i am happy because the reason i take pictures is to tell stories, i am not much of a talker. 75 has a interesting mix of styles, i like the story board idea but adding to it i suggest we crit the pictures that come in more in depth, not long stories but realy crit the images, this thing of dope and amazing is cool but i think one must step up the comments a bit. looking forward to seeng the 4 pic story and the virginity pics.

  23. Uno

    @molobedu
    Totally agree with you when it comes to deeper crits, it's better just a one word comment than nothing at all, but I'm open to constructive criticism, questions, ideas, associations (with other images, texts, music) or even thoughts that were triggered by the image.
    Lol @ "the virginity pics".

  24. lebogang nkoane

    Hello, we never got to get around to any of these, strange that, huh?

  25. onelove

    ja that 4/shotstory idea sounds promising : ()

  26. Uno

    14 months later I'm still in, let's do this, we've got two themes + 1 (watermark)? Should we do one each coming week, starting Tuesday?

  27. Buchu

    Amazing work, only saw it now.
    I like all the themes proposed.
    Lebogang, make the executive decision, chief!!!

  28. lebogang nkoane

    LOL @ Chief.

    Well, I say 1 theme every second week — time to prepare, type thing?

    How 'bout this:

    16th: we do narrative (4 shots in one type thing)
    17th: we do virgins, wait, I meant, we do virginity? (one day only?)
    18th: Watermarks (or you guys want this to run for a week? if so, then can we then make it from the 21st till 28th?

    On agreement, I'll make the executive decision?

  29. yizzi25

    im cool for the first 2, but im not sure about the watermark one.

  30. lebogang nkoane

    See I am only cool with it, if its a metaphor, for example, if assuming "water" as the object, the 'marks' becomes a play on words,,, something something something

  31. Diaan

    Agreed. Some themes will be a cool challenge. The decision now lies with Herr Lebogang.

  32. lebogang nkoane

    LOL!

    Okay. I will plug it on Monday — I have other things I'd like y'all to look at give me your thoughts: http://75.co.za/journal/article/141

    I, Lebogang Nkoane, declare these themes officially official. :)

    *lights a cigarette.

  33. shizeeda

    is the minimum requirement 4 shots for the narrative or is that the max?

  34. lebogang nkoane

    Well, it could be more; but you'll have to 'add them into one photograph', so four like how Molobedu did would be optimum, but you can add more or just do 2 instead.

  35. Ovidius Nkoane

    I'm in like trends...

  36. Uno

    You know I'm in an'itching for some themes...
    Just wanna know why are you guys (LN and yizzi) so resistant to watermarks?

  37. lebogang nkoane

    I don't want to add anything to my photography. I have a disturbing sense of detail, adding a watermark to a photograph of my mine would mean, I might as well create a graphic-design piece.

    but, like I said, when you guys post watermarked photographs, I'll post photographs with references to 'water, marks'.

    Aside from that, adding a watermark never made sense to me. Protecting a photograph from it being stolen, no longer applies especially with the advent of Adobe®Photoshop CS5 (it has the ability to clone with extreme intelligence): my rule of thumb is: if somebody wants that photograph, they will get it, through crook, hook or payment.

    Second rule of thumb, if you don't want it to be stolen: don't share it.

  38. yizzi25

    that's real talk right there!
    2nd rule of thumb.
