walls

just walking,i have been reflecting on a little thing, that the situatuionists did in the 60´s, and still be practiced by some artists in that frame of thought, how to psycogeograph the place u live in -

In situationist texts, a Dérive is an attempt at analysis of the totality of everyday life, through the passive movement through space. It is translated as drift.

and on one such drifts i found this image in the back alleys of a busy shanghai street,

no the marks are numbers people leave all over the city, like tags, but with the meaning that when they move house, the name and cell number will be left for

people that might be looking --- Now the landlord or the city officials wich i have not encountered my self, but they are there, paint the numbers with white ,greay or depending the colour of the wall to cover it all ----

on anothe reflective thought, the aesthetic of the miss match paint patches is really starting to appeal to me, the coming days i will show u what i am talking about ---

SHANGHAI; IS CHANGING ON A DAY >TO day basis ---the pulse is on another tempo ---

Love the image, love the text. It's a necessary piece of information, both to put it in a social/urban context and to explain the conceptual starting point. This whole fast paced transformation process of a city with it's impacts on place/identity and people still trying to keep certain social ties even against authorities is so well represented by the white cover paint. Good one!

One question: why do authorities cover this information in such a clumsy way, if it's to keep the city clean I can't see why are all these lines of paint better than numbers and characters on a wall? Why go to all the trouble? It's almost like erasing their city's past...
