these all for part of a piece called, NOT MINE ---at all

Appropriation is the act of taking possession of or assigning purpose to properties or ideas-

In the visual arts, to appropriate means to adopt, borrow, recycle or sample aspects (or the entire form) of man-made visual culture. The Oxford English Dictionary defines appropriation in relation to art as 'the practice or technique of reworking the images or styles contained in earlier works of art, esp. (in later use) in order to provoke critical re-evaluation of well-known pieces by presenting them in new contexts, or to challenge notions of individual creativity or authenticity in art."

Art Photography --has moved on from just taking pics urself.

Both the idea and the image make me unconfortable.
Anyway I've always felt uncomfortable with curators anyway.

  8. SSM

    Yo i DIG the Pic.
Graphers are missing the point, in order for us to move on we need to know where we coming from(reflect). If we don't we might find ourselves moving in circles.
    Yo'l need to move on.

  9. Uno

    @nerdy-b

That's exactly the point: we need to reflect before we move so that we don't move in circles. We can't just accept whatever souns cool or whatever becomes widely accepted, our art history is full of sad events that illustrate how we blindly follow wrong directions just because someone makes it sound cool and progressive and "the right thing to do" (especially critics and academics).
The search for new directions must be made hand in hand with our own personal critical judgement.

I have nothing about against putting images in new contexts and challenging perceptions but I think it needs to be made with a very strong concept and with a great sensibility in trying to understand when, where and who made that image.
Unfortunately these images uploaded by nativesoul lack vital information or reassurance that was made with that strong concept or sensibility. Nativesoul, correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me that the choice was based more on aestethic reasons than anything else. that's what makes me uncomfortable.

  10. Native Soul

firstly much respect to ur likes and dislikes.
i love disagreement as it is the fruits of a good conversation, or in this case a cyber word exchange.
my considerations for uploading the negs, lies in a old practise of mine called "dumpster dive" and more formally the "found object" -(French: objet trouvé) or readymade

as for ----strong concept and with a great sensibility in trying to understand when, where and who made that image.-----

“ Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery—celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from—it’s where you take them to.” ”

    —Jim Jarmusch,

@ UP--I agree and then disagree, as it sounds to me that u curating the images u view on this site --

I challenge u to go and steal an image! and then upload it as stolen, or not

    much love.

  11. Uno

As for what Jarmusch said, he refers to stealing in order to create, exactly what Godard said "it's where you take them to". I have nothing against that, I admire both very much and agree with every word.
What makes me uncomfortable is taking or stealing without creating something with it, changing only its context isn't enough, the credit due to you being only finding the object.
    As for your challenge:

    http://75.co.za/up/2009/08/19

I now challenge you to express yourself by creating something personal with your "found objects".
