Still scared of Joburg...

I made it to the Graffiti Photowalk! =D I didn't make it in time [7:30], but yay!

I got to meet some of the 75ers, and had a great time meeting lovely people. =]

I cringe a little inside everyitime i take a photograph of graffiti. It kinda feels like i'm stepping on someone elses turf. But... I absolutely love how this photograph turned out. =]

If anyone knows the name of the artist, please do let me know. [credits]

Great meeting you yesterday. Brilliant in fact. And a great pic too.
When it comes to taking pics of some-one else's art, I hear you.
But I think its a little different for graffiti artists. Unlike our photos, or an artist's sculptures, paintings, prose or music ... there is something fleeting with the work of graffiti artists.
Here today, gone tomorrow. Obliterated. White-washed.
By taking photographs of there work, I feel that we preserve a little of what they do. Sharing it, bringing them visibility they might not ordinarily have.
I wonder how the artists themselves feel? Do they see it like I do?

Ah, I never thought of it that way. Good point. I supposed the best i could do is to make sure i write down the artist's name and credit their work.
I also wonder how they feel about. I was actually expecting to see some Graffiti artists too yesterday. Would've been great to ask them such questions too.

=D 'twas great meeting you too. I look forward to more events and meetings like this. =]

@Daz — I think we can ask Stefanie Jason ( http://75.co.za/nina_simone ) she knows a few 'graf artists!

  7. Stefanie Jason

Hey daz, that's a good point, i think preservation in the graff context is super important, because of it's medium and because a lot of people dont see it as art, pieces are easily painted over, altered/destroyed - so capturing it and giving credit to the artist is perfect.

@Stefanie: Brilliant ... thanks for the feedback ... really appreciate it!
