A womans' place?

With a lot of our news having been about gender based violence. I find it strange to hear elder women telling a newlly wed that it is her duty to follow the will of her husband! Under the presence of culture & tradition gender based violance will not be coming to an end anytime soon!!!

I don't think " follow the will of her husband " is a "cause" (lacking a better word) of gender based violence, but rather something to the lines of the man is the head of the family type this
    ---
    Genesis 3:16
To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”
    ---
    Ephesians 5:22
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

@Kunta Kinte: and isn't about time we question these scriptures? Do you sincerely believe that men should rule over submissive women? What century do you belong to? The continuation of this cultural and religious speech contributes to the abuses committed against women and to the impunity that these criminals have enjoyed for too many years. Any religious leaders that give credibility to any inequalities between genders are accomplices to the crimes committed. So are our so called traditional leaders that choose which cultural truth is more convenient...

@Nkululeko: Thank you for the thought provoking image and words, well framed.

@GGM : word, that actually does look like Mdu
@Uno : I am not saying the scriptures promote or justify violence towards woman, I am saying that as said in the caption "elder women telling a newlly wed that it is her duty to follow the will of her husband!" is unrelated to "gender based violence"

@ Kunta: Of course it is related, it's a justification for the husband to "put his wife in the right place" because she won't obey... and the rest of the family and even a lot of times the police don't take it as a serious offence due to these so called religious principles and cultural values...

There is something disturbingly wrong with this image.....shouldn't weddings be full of smiles, ullulations, dance and festivities?
Why does it look like she is sad....? ( or am I seeing things )
