hey jeff - sam buk and I have a full light kit we'd like to sell, It's fairly new, and used only once. We're moving house and just need some extra cash. If you want to know the specs you can email tizah03@gmail.com....or 0835861138/0722395945 :)
Good people, i am planning to invest in studio equipment, especially lights. I have done my little research and price comparisons as well as what i can afford. But i still need advice as to what brand to ur knowledge, u know is good, where i can get/window shop and prices range.

Graham Robertson has some lighting stuff as well. He's not badly priced and you can walk in and check the stuff out as well..

Keep me posted on your progress Jeff...I'll be looking at getting some lights soonish as well..
Will do Matt.
Hmmm,,, call me an entrepreneur if you will — I see a business model right here.
75th Studio — how does that sound?
:-)
Yo Lebo,
That sounds super interesting + I think there's enough work going around, that it would be used quite often. What are your ideas? Do share. There is definitely a need/demand for the space.
Nothing much — guerilla style. What do we need?
1. space (building with a large enough empty space to do shoots and work)
2. lights, camera, lenses, film, memory cards ( or these can be brought by respect 'graphers)
3. fitting 'space', props for art direction, make-up stuff (these can be on the fly)
4. work stations to do post production + and virtual space for 'storage of photography'
5. a tight ass schedule to manage time + space
6. in two locations: johannesburg and cape town
7. film processing and development (ala dark room)
We could even run workshops; exhibitions; promotions, etc. What yáll think? I am sure we can gently persuade somebody to provide such, no?
75th Studio
75th Exhibition
75th Annual
Mate. Just do it.
BTW, progress on the book is ... ;-)
75th Studio sounds like a grand plan. Go for it!
I say, get
1. space (building with a large enough empty space to do shoots and work)
and I am willing to bring along my workstation for post production.
Done.
Awesome — I am on it like Kojak!
@Daz: I am in the design phase of the book — albeit it's still on paper. It will be ready by the next exhibition: 19th April.
*starts making calls…
@Daz, is the 75th Annual = 75th Book?
I am so very in on this....
@matt Awesome!
@yizzi25: yep!
From thought to conception.... welcome back to johannesburg. The city where dreams get turned into reality in an Hour :)
@karabo — word is bond!
The reason i want lights is, i want to do it and stop imagining if i could, what if.
So lebogang, let us know how we can fit into your ideas, or what that biz model will be, a collective or we just hire out that space belonging to an individual.
I mean its 1 thing to get lights for myself, but i do not have much creative space. (My girl will get pissed with shifting the furniture every weekend.
Sorta stuff. Lets do it.
… a creative collective space."
I shall work out the kinks in the coming weeks — in the mean time, get the lights (equipment) you need and get your business going — when the 75th Studio is ready, we will be in touch — we could even pay you for the use of your lights (and equipment) for the studio type thing.
But, the ball is rolling as we speak — details will follow.
yo peeps. i'm in like a dream.
I like the idea of a studio!!!
Huh! Okay, I wrote this helluva long reply and only the first sentence got posted? Too tired to rewrite now. :(
Okay, just so you know I figured it out. If you type a smaller than sign (shift + comma) everything after gets cut off. #bugfix
*i'll investigate that bug — ta for the heads up.
Oh, another thing we could do in/at the studio: sell photographs — in fact perfect the art of doing so: from online to offline to shipping; the try make the whole thing automated.
I know there is a lot of other web-services that allow that — call me a scientist, but I do believe there is value in knowing how things are done, plus it will add to South/Africa's intellectually property if we learn how to do it, and do it, African-Sty-lé.
Word.
i'm loving this idea!!
Oh, yeah we can also have the 'tutorial' sessions — where 'graphers can impart knowledge on some these technical aspects of photography … sharing collective knowledge.
:-)
when do we start?
I'd say next year — most likely after April — but anytime.
The Cape Town chapter can start sourcing out the space — I'll be trying to get the JHB side done — and the finance thereof.
I love it when a plan comes together, I urge all graphers to put forward funds to both cape town and joburg studios
This all sounds amazing.
@lebogang - check out and ask @panascape on twitter - he had studio space he wanted to rent out/ share cost of rent with other togs - lower albert road [I think] Woodstock - HUGE space, but pricey. What would ROCK is having our own space though :) Woohoo how cool is this [how slow am I to twig onto this? lol]:)
Goethe on Main has sent out application forms, looking to support or fund a creative project.
Their requirement are very basic.
1. Description of project
2. Timeline
3. Detailed budget- they offer maximum R30 000
4. Biographies of involved parties
5. Visuals of previous projects, supporting material...
I'd love to collaborate with you guys, the graphers, come up with a project to submit?
You game?
Hey Lerato, we're trying to put together an annual exhibition and we could possibly work in collaboration with you.
How do we get in touch with you?
