hmmm,,, i am noticing a style here.
this is your style, but i've always wondered if a photographer pursues a style or the style is inherent, most importantly can a photographer change their style?
@Sthe Ngocobo, thats another young woman in the background, don't worry she doesn't check this site! But yes, that's exactly it, there's a third person outside the left of the frame.
@Lebogang I think it's a bit of both. I am drawn to photos with visual depth, shallow dof or perspective shots etc. And I think I do try to reproduce those quite a bit. But on the other hand I love portraits too, sometimes really flat ones. But yeah, i like a certain style then I try to reproduce it etc. I think a photographer can change style if say, their outlook on life were to change etc.
Ah, I get that.
I love the use of the phrase, "outlook on life", I suppose in a way, that's what a photographer captures.
I've been trying to change my style, avoiding what I would normally shoot, it hasn't worked very well.
@Novocain: Aaaaaaaah, heheheheheheehehe, got that one wrong! Hope she doesn't check that out!
:-)
@Lebogang, I think I am stuck in the same boat as you....fear of change has made me stick to what I have come to accept as "what Iam good at", instead of challenging myself on "what else can I be good at"
Good question raised..>!
lovely
Great shot, love the simplicity.
@lebo, I think I misunderstood what you meant by style perhaps. I was thinking of personal style that finds it's way into everything we do. How we wear our jeans, how we speak, sense of humour etc. I think we find all that in our photographs, or we do if we are being honest. It's probably most pronounced when we are at our best.
I spoke to a photographer about Ansel Adams once, and he lamented that in his later years he has started to do the worst thing possible, copy himself. I guess that's the line to find, are you honing your style through experience and experimentation or are you copying yourself - doing what works well because you know it works as opposed to doing something really honest. (not you specifically but an artist in general)
I often know when I'm bullshitting, when I take a shot because I think something is perceived as cool. I reckon it's important to recognise those moments and either fight them or laugh it off, but at no time take those photos seriously.
If all your photos seem to have a certain style no matter how honest the graph, maybe it's just you! :)
@Sthe Ngocobo are you talking more about a certain photographic style than a personal style? black and white portrait vs colour landscape etc?
