I finally managed to take the panties off her last night...look at her scars! I hope my Muslim friends are having a very hungry Ramadan.
Bingo!
OK. Explain. I've been trying to get a shot of her majesty for longer than I care to remember. But I always end up with an overexposed mess of nothing. So, what am I doing wrong? ...
Hey buddy...your camera is probably overexposing due to metering (your camera picking up objects closer than the moon, e.g, trees,clouds,etc). U need a DSLR with a tele lens....it gets even messier if you're not using a tripod.
another thing to remember is that the moon is the brightest object up there in the evening...using a higher iso number (as a rule for low light) will also overexpose it...use your camera's base ISO like you would do in bright day light.
@Daz — steady hands (or tripod); low ISO (sometimes the noise, gets annoying in post-production); Aperture is upto you: take a wider range: if time allowing;
Alas, in summer she (the moon) rises before sunset … more experimentation: telephoto lens == steady hands (or tripod).
Great!!
OK. I nailed it this evening. Full moon.
Tripod. 200mm zoom.
Relatively fast shutter speed, f/16 sharper than wide-open.
Moon delicious, but clouds non-existent ...
I can see a blended shot being called for, from 2 exposures if you want the best of both worlds.
One observation, 200mm ain't enough ... this is crying out for 400nn, 500mm or better!
Great. I used a 300mm. shutter speed @ 1/250 and I started with F11...all in manual mode
