Responding to your question, the type of photography I like is the photo journalism and especially in the social area.
So are the ways I search for my clicks. As you can realize social areas are usually poor, in which their buildings are old and poorly maintained.
Apart from what you just explained, many parts of village and cities from the colonial temple had no maintenance or upgrades, in addition to having been with over population and in some cases motivated more by civil war.
I think the reasons are for textures you noted.
