Memory

Memory

There is always the blood that sips into the soil, defiling it, crying out to God. We too must remember that we stopped to watch them die because it was easier that way. But those who later returned to bury fathers, mothers and children come here to remember that in Africa we are largely on our own. We too who were complicit in our silence must now help them to remember, lest we forget...

    Haunting, deeply emotional, a reminder of "how dangerous is anarchy without morality" (I think this one is from Kapuschinsky).

    Love the photograph.

    Almost similar to a series of paintings I had to do for my final matric work (painting portfolio). Didn’t get great marks but hey at least I stood up for what I believe in.

    I feel u , letting our pasts inform our futures is a great mantra ---I wish our coutries leaders keep that in mind as we move forward.

    much respect and thank u for sharing
    and bringing to light this important fact.

    Rwanda has its history and It's scary and saddening to know that it might just happen again, Have friends who lost all their families and were lucky to escape as exchange students........ East Africa has the most peaceful human beings in Africa, but Politics fcuk the countries big time..... Ethopia. Somali. Burundi. Sudan. Kenya. Uganda.....

    sometimes i wonder, will it ever end... long lasting effects of colonialism, greed n envy, and now modern day colonialism again with China invading Africa.. when will Africans benefit from Africa..

    as chilling as this pic is.. it's soo real and a daily experience for many that we in the "west" can't even begin to overstand.. for many in the "west" 9/11 was life-changing..

    thanks for this pic again.. it helps to keep me grounded and to never forget that in a split second, our life can change.. (sorry for the politricks take on this, but...)

    Thank you. I think we all ought to remember with them as they undergo the annual 100 days or moaning and remembrance (let the xenophobic attacks be a warning to us all that we too are capable of evil) because as Martin Niemöller said:

    "In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;

    And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;

    And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;

    And then . . . they came for me . . . And by that time there was no one left to speak up."
