Pietermaritzburg use to be a beautiful city.....Power changed hands,hands saw riches,riches bred greed,greed spawned filth.....filth brought about death.....death of one of South Africa's Cleanest cities...( back in the day....)

i like this image, but i think your harking back for the past is misplaced. it's problematic to automatically link post '94 with "riches,riches bred greed,greed spawned filth.....filth brought about death...". all those things you mention as new ills existed way before 94, and then some. there is no redemptive narrative in what pre-94 south africa was. i think the argument for the upkeep of the city and this building could've been made differently.
