"Current estimates are that north of the Rio Grande, there were about 12 to 15 million Native Americans at the time Columbus landed... By the time Europeans reached the continental borders of the US, there were about 200,000."
Okay: mass genocide.
Pow wow brings the Native American's in a specific community together over a weekend, to sing, dance and dress like those who came before them did. It's a way in which they seek to hold on to their way of life and belief system that the colonists tried to rid them of by killing them, or, through 'teaching' them otherwise in boarding schools that little kids were taken too after being forcefully removed from their parents and communities. Can you imagine being taken from your parents, while they were being held at gunpoint to give you up? Indian boarding schools existed as late as the 1960s.
Peace be upon those who effected such tragedies, those who were affected, and others still who feel the after-effects of such wrongdoing all over the world.
