The camera makes everyone a tourist in other people's reality, and eventually in one's own.

I love that woman, Susan Sontag.

To a large extend I owe the 75th Manifesto to her words.

    :-)

I was actually browsing through the book this morning (I read it a while ago and my wife is reading it now). As much as I agree with some of the points (very good ones) that she raised "On photography", I can't help but disagree with so many others, a few were justified due to their post modern anti-modernism nature, others are sour and unfair generalizations, almost a product of a desillusioned, angry and frustrated intelectual brat against 1970's western society, which mixes the message of the essay making it very self absorbed at times. The camera as a phalus or gun being one good example. When I think of the overall impression the book left, it's a very academic exercise, made by a very inteligent and insightful writer but with very little personal experience and engagement with "making" Photography (another point I disagree: that Photography "takes something away...).

i've never seen anyone in the township walking their dog -- but workers do it for money -- just not for their own dogs
