Just a little experiment i did a while back using close up filters and painting with light...

    With the lights on and your camera on a tripod, position over your subject, in this case straws, get your focus. Choose your aperture, I used F4, select a long exposure +-30sec. Now switch the lights off, open the shutter and using a light source (i used my phone :P) go round and round the subject slowly and smoothly....

    It takes a bit of practice and messing around with the amount of light, shutter speed etc, but it makes for some cool pics!

    Nope, it is the DOF produced by the close up filters ;)
