You’re quite right, in Portuguese it’s written “Como é?”, but the popular Mozambican use of the Portuguese language, has simplified it to “Komeh?” in the same way “How is it”, in English became “Howzit?”. Normally these reductions of language remind me of Newspeak (from Orwell’s 1984), but in some cases (Komeh? For example) it’s a simplification of language that doesn’t take any meaning from the message. The new Portuguese orthographic agreement incorporates a lot of Brazilian language simplifications and I believe that one day the same will happen with a lot of expressions being used in other former Portuguese colonies. It’s a way of keeping the language alive.
By the way, Portuguese is my first language…
