mmm...this political poster work contains interesting commentary, in it´s juxtaposing of elements within and around the poster itself [street names, shop names etc...]...the irony/sarcasm/cynicism [perhaps even optimism] is biting...
though it´s hard to pin-point in general the subject of the image, the elements which do jump out do so starkly and how they contrast with each other is provoking...for example the street lamp; indicative of a bright future no? or the brightest light in the political darkness/night? versus the posters that is...
is that a pac poster somewhere there? shadow of it´s former past [peace sobukwe]...and the lone lit rooms in the building in the background...gives a lonely feeling...
thought provoking...keep exposing*
p.s. perhaps they´re all especially marked defined by the dustbin below the street pole - rubbish/dirt...
Thanks Rangoato and Nhlanhla. Yes, it is a PAC poster. As for the bin it's unavoidable, they're everywhere, strapped to every pole (probably to avoid theft) but it gives a nice connection with the election campaign rubish. I look at the light as that iluminated spot in these dark political times, not of hope as it's pointing in another direction, but of aimed at an elightened spirit that can find that delicate balance on this absurd corner between dream and reason (hence the building with its modernist, structural rigidness), not bound to ilusion or blind faith but still critical and participative. Pi is a great friend and this image is dedicated to him because it's a theme we've been discussing lately (or maybe since we've met, always in different ways).
