When I first noticed him, he was sleeping peacefuly, his head leaning to the side, under the beautiful morning light.

As I was adjusting the composition, aperture, speed and trying to get closer he woke up, not very happy, rightfully so.

I felt bad, first because maybe he woke up because of me, second because it's not nice to wake up and the first thing you see is a camera on your face.

I walked up to him, introduced myself, he asked, in a grumpy mood, where was I from, if I was a journalist, why was I photographing him... I told him, "because you looked beautiful" and I showed him the photo, he looked at the camera and at me suspiciously but eventually got a bit more relaxed.

We parted in reasonably good terms.

I like the fact that you spoke to him afterwards and introduced yourself. I know the feeling, it sucks when you point the camera at someone in the street and you realise it upsets them, or you're violating their privacy etc. It's something I struggle with and I usually shy away from snapping people on the street even though I may want to. But I guess if you take the time to explain it to them, you make them part of the process, no?
