Freedom

Freedom

I took this at the 20 th Anniversary of Mandela's release,

I was filming for an events company and took my Lomo along.

What I want to say about the series of photos I will upload from this is that I don't think we are truly free in this country yet. Economic disparities, poverty, and a failing education system are really killing us. However I also believe freedom starts inside us all. I would like to get some thoughts around this

    BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

    *on freedom.

I think Assata Shakur put it better: … Freedom? you asking me about freedom? you asking me about freedom? I’ll be honest with you, I know a whole lot more, about what freedom isn’t than what it is…"

and I think I am of the same mind as that.

Wow man, spot on, visually, conceptually and verbally. This is so deep and rich with meaning... Love how the smiling faces are less prominent than the serious faces and hands, almost like a spiritual projection, although all of them are behind bars. Freedom is relative after all, like you said, it can't be given like a bonus for hardship or good behaviour, it must be conquered both individually and as a community, the worse kind of prison is formed by our own prejudices, lack of belonging, stereotypes, envy, blind ambition and selfishness.
Excelent thought provoking work, can't wait to see the next ones.
