I was delighted to see these core values written on the walls of a Soweto school that I walked into last week-end. Wandering around, reading these words, left me wondering ~ although there is a heightened awareness in our society that that there is something amiss with how we are raising our children, the solutions about how our children learn values is elusive at best.
"Values that are preferences, like any other preferences, whether it is for tea or coffee, for long rather than short hair, are personal choices that are subjective and able to be changed at any time.
On the other hand, values that are principles, like honesty and compassion, are consistent, universal, transcultural and objective."
