With, Love.

an article.

Hello!

I know I don't normally write as regular as some "web 2.0 guide" sites would suggest. But, I as momma would say, only speak when you have something to say — although I wonder what her thoughts would be about twitter.

Alas, this is the second month of the year and I think it would best to put some ideas I have on the able.

  1. Meet-ups;
  2. Exhibitions
  3. Themes
  4. Bananas

Nativesoul, will be in JHB/PTA around the 13-15th, I think we need to schedule a meet-up around the same time, I suggest maybe the 14th, but you know that Saint hogs that day way too much, but lets work around it, say:

  1. 14th or 15th February
  2. Rosebank (or anywhere along the Gautrain Route? I am not mobile, this choice is biased) — feel free to suggest any other place.

We will need to organise more — I feel as if we need to meet on a more regular basis, at the very least every two months. Let me know if this way too much? Oh, another thing, is it possible for Cape Town 'graphers to also organise a meet-up then we can exchange notes?

Exhibitions.  I am all for printed photography, but I also think because 75 is in a virtual digital space, there has to be a way of tapping into this source to augment the physical space with pixels?

Another idea I have is that, I would like to know how many of the 'graphers are keen to have solo exhibitions or even collaborate?  I am working on an idea where we at least have 3-5 exhibitions that a specific to a 'grapher every year.

Themes. Anybody got ideas of themes to explore, I think at least 1 theme a month would be good, I also think knowing those themes in advance is better — obviously we will allow room for ad-hoc themes that come up. Some ideas that never happened where:

  1. In the bag (where you take everything in your bag and lay it on a table and shoot it)
  2. Four Seasons (shooting the same spot over a year and stitching the 'graphs together, this would need a year of remembering though)
  3. To gaze upon white flesh (re: diaan's comment)
  4. err, err, err, can't remember the other.

Bananas. Is the upgrade of the site I am still working on. I would like to have it live before mid-April. I'll be honest, finding the time to work on it, has proven tricky, being extremely broke all of last year has forced me to find butter for the bread I owe, but I live in hope.

Your thoughts?

1ove, ideas.

Meet: I'm (tentatively, as usual) totally up for a meet, __especially__ if it's within walking distance of a Gautrain station.

Exhibitions: I really want to start participating in them this year, so from now on I'l put in extra effort for them.

Exhibition/digital: How about getting some volunteers to curate some digital shows that can then be posted on a blog?

Themes: There was a suggestion a while back, "to gaze upon white flesh". Obviously a bit of a political/risky one this, but maybe necessary to start some frikkin dialogue, since that's what this country needs.

Bananas: We should start a LN food and coffee fund to keep you coding. ;)

    LOL @ fund!

Yeah, don't hide yourself, although, you've done some meet-ups with other 'graphers, so that's pretty cool.

Exhibition: yeah, we could work on that — I'll speak to a few curators; and also, we could do a 'community' type thing.

Themes; I agree, we need to talk — I am game for that idea; let me add to the list. Then, in a few days, I'll plug a theme specific thing to plan them.

LN fund: let's not forget the smokes...

    Meetings: I'm up : )

Exhibitions: I'm in for any kind of exhibition, either solo or collaborations, especially if it involves printed material... only problem is cash flow at the moment, is there any possibility of sponsors?

Themes: all in, although it will depend on time...

Bananas: how did you come up with that name? You remind me of a friend of mine from Maputo, Vino, for a whole number of reasons, not only because of bananas...

  4. lebogang nkoane

    LOL @ smokes!

Exhibitions: I am working to get a sponsor that we will partner with throughout the year ( and possibly, in the next years), 2 are keen; still need to work the kinks of it.

Bananas: I am geek, not greek and I don't like the terms, alpha/beta/blah-blah. So my number system is based on fruits, also, on the mvc-framework (a web development framework) I built, it is now on version b (for bananas).

    :-)

  5. Diaan

But... really... if you're going to have to count using fruit we're going to have to standardise.

  6. Lebogang Ditibane

    so after banana is cranberry?

  7. lebogang nkoane

    lol @ standardise!

    a: apples; b: bananas; c: cherries; d: ?; e: ?; f:? g: guava; h:?; i: ?; j: ?; k: ?

  8. Uno

    d: dates
    ...
    f: figs
    ...
    k: kiwi
    ...
