Great idea...
Hello,
Anybody here? First things first, the new edition of 75 will take quite sometime to finish. I had planned, last year, to sync it with the coming 5th year, but it appears that won't happen. I am working on a few things, one of them, how to generate sustainable revenue — professional photographer's portfolio integration at a premium; buying and selling photography and advertising comes to mind. Wait. wait. wait.
Before, you think I'll be pimping this project out to the big 5. I am told by the good people of 2LMN that the idea we have for advertising, is (verbatim):
clothing the arm that feeds you.
I am not, yet, allowed to say much 'bout it, but word is: Germination.
With that said, and in the same spirit, I was thinking of a theme we could do for end of the month. But first let me breakdown the inspiration:
I had to go get some supplies for some plumbing work that needs doing at home. On the way there, by Builders Warehouse, I saw a couple of men sitting by the entrance with the signs saying: plumber, painter, bricklayer, etc. I've seen this many times in the past years.
Yes. That's it. Would it be possible to do a theme on them? But, before you think it's a "middle class guilt" thing I am talking about. Well here is the back story:
A few years ago, whilst I was employed, I used to drive by those posters on robots, with the name of the painter and number seeking employment. Then I thought it would be a good theme to photograph that.
That too could be part of the theme. Now for the interesting part:
I want us not to just photograph some random poster and guy, but a the men and women, who have actually provided you with their service. In a sense, using 75 as platform to provide marketing for them. ( a little tweeting bird tells me word of mouth works best)
It is a long short, but yo, the plumber dude who is working on mom's bathroom lives in a shack. He's got mad skill though, I'd recommend him to anybody, but I do think, using the spaces we occupy virtually has a greater chance of getting him business and not just some sympathy.
I hope I make sense — if I don't, I do hope there is another way I can help.
*ps: the emotion (assuming you can sense it) is of the very same sentiment of the words quoted from 2LMN.
1ove, extends.
Great idea...
my plumber has been so dodgy lately -- missing appointments ...
nonetheless, interesting concept -- you got a date?
love this
when?
I skeem end of March or mid-April? Maybe sync it with the 5th Year;
But mostly, to give us time to get it done.
i am reminded of a graphic designer that did something similar, he went around his town, and took handwritten ads, and gave it a rework-- with proper graphic design principles -----
one can never tell if it works(does it bring revenue to the person), --- I do think the action and the attempt in breaking the advertising cycle is what intriques me. I mean we will bring an alternative economy to life. A gift economy *
I am a little far removed , but when i was down south just some weeks ago i did some shots of the roadside ads,
In china it was the same with a twist --- as so many people are moving in and out of the very TALL apartments buildings , the Shanghai folk found a novel way to make sure they are still in the loop, They would leave their name and cell number on a wall close to the building they occupied and move on -- WALLS were thick with red ink chinese texts plus numbers, at first i was bewildered thinking this is a new kinda street art - but soon came to understand the idea ---
long story short --- i think it to be an honourable idea, and wanna contribute in a way that i am not sure of now , but i am here to help.
F*cken awesome... Lets do it...
sounds awesome
