If there's one thing I detest it's our national preoccupation with gated communities. All they are to me is a continuation of the mindset that led to apartheid.

Gated communities. Funny how we call them that -communities. More like little outposts I tell you. I read an article about a woman who was stabbed in a complex in Jhb and the neighbors just watched even after the attackers left. She was lying on the grass bleeding. Now tell me that's what we'd call a community. We are becoming even more seperated from the next man. The walls we build become increasingly higher. Each man and woman to their castle. Locked -alarmed -secure. TV, Radio, Computer. Developments now regulate and facilitate our communications and interactions. We are living in our own plastic worlds that are becoming increasingly smaller and constricted.

Makes me think of Pink Floyd's the wall.

So to Gate or no to Gate? That is the question. I mean. Gating is just treating the symptom. It is a temporary solution that creates problems of its own. We need to consult with the truest of architects and redesign society. We need to infiltrate all minds, processes and resources. Hehe.

Somehow we all need to embrace 'One Love'.

    Peace out.

… juxtapose that with townships — they are communities, albeit, with everything else that 'gated dwellings' are trying to keep out.

But, I agree — I have to make sure, I don't stay at home for more than 2 days without "going out", madness settles in when I don't interact with people.

Yeah. Seems that when we gain we lose and when we sit still we retain, but lose out. Redesign I tell you. Luckily I've needed to work my random shifts at the library and so my seminars otherwise I'd be writing twisted things about the universe. It is possible that you and I suffer the same illness, haha.
