I can barely contain how excited I am. After a rather long wait, a couple of phone calls and a long ass line in the post office it finally arrived in the palm of my hand.

Yes, it's a nothing shot and the colour is completely wrong but I can feel how awesome this is going to be.

Hoya RM72 filter.

word to infrared. magic in waiting

  4. Buchu

    what does the filter do?

  5. Matt

Cuts out all light except for the infrared spectrum. It means you get these really trippy shades etc. It's not the best way to do it. Ideally you should have a DSLR which you "modify" so that the sensor only allows IR through, but a. I don't have an SLR I can sacrifice and b. I don't think I'd shoot enough to warrant such a murder...

I should really be shooting in full sun but alas I couldn't wait to try it out :)

It's been something I've wanted to do for a very long time. Finally saved up the cash to import the filter from the States so you'll probably find my next 100 uploads will all be infrared landscapes :)

For what it's worth this was shot on a cloudy day with 25 second exposure at ISO100 at f5.6. I will probably spend the entire weekend messing with these settings until I'm happy.

Yiss ... 25 seconds during the day at ISO100 ... that's like shooting through a brick wall!
    How do you focus?
Gotta love the trippy shades ...

    Amazing <3

@Daz yup..very much like shooting through a brick wall.

You compose and focus your shot sans the filter then screw the bad boy on and hope you don't move the camera too much....

Like I said I'll probably be spending the weekend messing with ISO, aperture and f-stops to get the mix right :)

Emmerentia Dam at around 11am if anyone wants to join me :) Will probably have a cold beer or two stashed away for surviving the hot sun :)

    dope!

  10. Neil Acid

i love it! think i'm adding this filter to my wishlist!

  11. Matt

@Neil Acid http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ is the only decent place to get them from. Look for the Hoya R72 or Hoya RM72 filter...be prepared to cry at the price though..shipping cost about as much as the filter itself.
