    1. Thato Sehlabela

It would be an interesting one. I'm game

    2. Mpumelelo

      hehehe. Self exploration.
I'm gonna be shooting a self portrait a day for the next 6 months. LOL
I wanna see how thats gonna look like.

    3. sweetoof

there is a fine balance involved in autoportraiture. remember Mpumelelo that you have the audience to entertain as well, otherwise it becomes too introspective an endeavor. good luck in your exploration of self

    4. Mpumelelo

      Ta sweetoof.

    5. Jeff Rikhotso

Lets have that as a theme, or any other...its about time.

    6. lebogang nkoane

We have theme coming that should include this ( http://75.co.za/themes/07 )

I don't know much, but I'll drop my experience.

      1. don't drink — well, don't passout, I did that once and missed the 'key performance'.
      2. get the clichéd shots they need for publicity, it is boring as fuck though!
      3. do a lot of creative shots that make you happy, that way you'd want to do it again.

    2. Nkululeko Marais

Ya i second that, keep a clear level minded head on you.

If the event is sponsored, aways keep their branding in as many frames as u can and avoid opposition branding.

    3. Diaan

Underexpose, or the sage lights will create blown-out highlights. (Or shoot manually and check the highlights.)

    4. Mpumelelo

Yep i'm with the guys on all their pointers.

      1. Try and be as invisible as possible. (Wear Black clothes)
      2. Get a low light lens. These are cool: 50mm F1.4(this mofo is a beast)/ 24mm f1.8/ 35mm f1.8
      3. Try avoid using your speedlight unless you are shooting the crowd.
      4. Get you the front of the stage before everyone else coz its a bitch trying to push through the crowd, trying to protect your equipment.
      5. You need to be really patient coz people are annoying. LOL
      6. Depending on your camera; bump up your ISO to 1600.

    5. novocaine

Thanks guys, great feedback! @Lebo, 1) will be a bit of a challenge!

@mpumelo, i have a 50mm f/1.8 and a 35mm f/2 for now, those will have to do. Was thikning of borrowing a speedlite from a friend since i dont have one.

Will be shooting with a 550d.

Any advice for backstage shots, getting them from musicians? I guess the invisibility cloak works there too. But yeah thats me, out of site, catching the hidden stuff.

    6. Mpumelelo

Yeah I guess the invisibility will work.
I have a video that might just inspire you.

Good luck. Try and have fun.

    7. novocaine

Shot! I'll check that out later.

    8. ntsane

dont drink while on the job.

    9. Mpumelelo

Hai suka wena Ntsane. Have fun Novocaine.
Send me your email addy (info@mpumelelomacu.com)
I have a pdf for you.

    10. Sheri_G

Try to use the available light rather than using a speedlight... This is because sometimes the speedlight kills the ambiance.

    1. lebogang nkoane

I read something from NYT a few years ago.

    2. Diaan

I regularly read this specific blog. http://lens.blogs.nytimes.com/

    3. lebogang nkoane

Yeah, I wanted to do something similar to 75 — an editorial of sort, but yeah we discussed it 'Forum for us'

      :-)

    4. Diaan

I thing we should have our next meeting soon, and make it a bit more serious. Get our asses in to gear, so to speak.

Only those who want to, of course.

    5. lebogang nkoane

      Indeed.

I am launching something, very dear to my very existence in 10 days, so I can only meet after then.

So, when do we meet? End o' month? 2 weekends time?

    6. Diaan

I reckon let's give everyone a month to chill. Don't want to overload ourselves.

    7. Jeff Rikhotso

A month is cool, plus its even better when its not as cold, hopefully in summer.

    8. lebogang nkoane

      Cool.

I suppose then we could during that "cooling of period" discuss what we want to do and how we are going to do it.

This is the dialogue, the conversation as it happens within the notes.
